“If traveling was free, you’d never see me again”-
There is so much of this beautiful world to see. It’s like we could just vanish into the cacophony of serene silences of beautiful getaways of the different corners of the world. Here, in India, there exists a beautiful lush green, serene getaway covered with mountains that is the Himalayas.
The paradise is named Chopta which sits in the Garhwal Himalayas. This piece of heaven can be visited at any time of the year and you will not be wanting to come back.
1. Highest Shiva Temple
It stands at a height of 3680 m and is called the Tuganath Temple. Legend says the hands of Lord Shiva fell here in the shape of a bull. It is quite a climb till here, but once you settle down with the loss of breath, the grandeur of this place allows you reminisce and contemplate and even breathe a little better right before you continue your trek towards Chandrashila.
2. The place welcomes you anytime of the year
June 2013 Uttarakhand flood has got people a little skeptical about visiting Chopta. But during the summers, this place has a warm morning and breezy nights, monsoons show you extravagant fresh greenery. It’s like the trees have taken a bath and have become greener. Winters give you a clear sky with a blanket of stars making your fairy-tale wish come true.
3. Nature’s Canvas
Mother Nature has her pallet at its best here. It is a picture with so much of beauty that to some extent it hurts a little inside to take it all in, all at once. The good kind of pain though!
4. Beautiful Meadows
Chopta has beautiful meadows to offer you. And to love Chopta completely you cannot close yourself in concrete walls. You should avoid monsoons, in this case, to avoid blood-sucking leeches. Camping in the meadows and feeling fresh grass under your feet and sleep in the blanket of stars is ideal to love Chopta.
We have spoken about continuing your trek to Chandrashila, which is 4090 m high, and it is strongly recommended. Once you reach this peak you will the Greater Himalayas hugging you and the scenery, well, all words fall short when you need to describe how fantastic it is to watch the high and mighty in all its glory up close.
Chopta is great for amateur trekkers, great back-packing journey and an up close look of Nature in all its grandeur.
